Gig Harbor Cooperative Preschool

Gig Harbor Cooperative Preschool (GHCP) is a parent-operated, non-profit school that has served the Gig Harbor community since 1962. It provides early education programs for children from ages 1 to 5, including Ladybugs (1-2 years), Bumblebees (2-3 years), Caterpillars (3-4 years), and Butterflies (Pre-K: 4+ years). The curriculum focuses on play-based learning, hands-on exploration, and purposeful play, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and social-emotional development.

A key aspect of GHCP is its cooperative model, where families actively participate in their child's early learning journey. Parents or caregivers volunteer in the classroom approximately one to two times per month, working alongside teachers to create an engaging environment. This involvement helps keep tuition affordable and builds a supportive community where families often form lasting friendships.

The school emphasizes growing the whole child, drawing from research-based practices and guidelines from Washington State Early Learning and Development and the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Daily activities include learning centers, outdoor play, nature discovery, art, music, and movement. The goal is to prepare children for kindergarten with confidence, independence, and strong foundational skills.
