Where is Gig Harbor?
On a sheltered inlet of Puget Sound in Pierce County, Washington, just across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge from Tacoma. Seattle is roughly an hour north; Sea-Tac Airport is the closest major airport.
What is the best way to spend a first day?
Start downtown on Harborview Drive, which wraps the water: the netsheds, the marinas, and the shops and restaurants along it. Skansie Brothers Park and the Harbor History Museum are both on the waterfront, and the Cushman Trail runs through town if you want to walk or ride.
Explore things to doWhen should I visit?
Summer is peak season on the harbor, with the Maritime Gig Festival in June and the Waterfront Farmers Market at Skansie Brothers Park. Fall is quieter with mild weather. December brings the Lighted Boat Parade. Winters are wet; pack a rain layer.
