Grit City Books

Grit City Books opened its physical storefront at 3116 6th Avenue in Tacoma, Washington, in May 2024, after launching online in late 2023. The 1,600-square-foot store offers an expertly curated selection of new books, including current bestsellers and eclectic titles across various genres and literary traditions. The store emphasizes highlighting queer and other underrepresented groups' stories.

Beyond books, you can find a range of gifts such as journals, calendars, greeting cards, games, puzzles, and tarot decks. They also carry Grit City Books brand merchandise, including t-shirts and a custom coffee blend. Grit City Books is owned and operated by Jeff Hanway, Kegan Hanway, and Kaitlin Chandler, who are LGBTQIA+ owners committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.

The bookstore aims to be a community gathering space, hosting author talks, community conversations, and both in-store and online book clubs. They also provide educational outreach, partner with local schools for book fairs, and offer family-friendly drag story time and poetry readings. Free parking is available in front of the store on 6th Avenue and on Cedar Street, with a Pierce Transit Route 1 stop directly outside.
